Whatever instrument you are buying what you choose may be serving you for many years and learning with the right tools from the start sets you up for success. Please do get in touch and I can help you make the best choice for your budget.
Piano
Pupils need the right tools at home in order to be able to succeed. All piano students, regardless of level, need an acoustic piano at home.
Sorry I don’t teach any form of keyboard or electric piano. A digital imitation piano is in no way a suitable alternative. Acoustic instruments take the same space as a keyboard, cost the equivalent and a good quality instrument will hold its value. Playing on a digital instrument slows student progress, diminishes motivation (due to frustration and an inability to reinforce practice techniques learned during lessons at home) thus making it much harder to reach musical potential.
Flute
A good quality instrument that enables sound making early on is important. Be careful about second hand instruments online unless they are from a reputable dealer as sometimes the costs of repair/servicing to make the instrument playable exceed the flutes’ value. If you need help sourcing an instrument please let me know.
Recorder
For recorders we are fortunate in that there are many inexpensive options out there. Some however are definitely better than others! Beginners start on a plastic instrument. Please contact me before buying. All plastic recorders are definitely not made equal!
