Flute, Recorder and Piano Lessons

An accomplished flautist and pianist, Laraine studied flute with Richard Davies (Principal flautist of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra) at Manchester University, UK, graduating with a Honours Bachelor degree Mus(B) in Music in June 1998

Here I am accompanying myself having a little fun!:

Laraine started teaching individual piano and flute lessons at the age of 14 and has been teaching music ever since either alongside her business career or as a compliment to parenthood.  Laraine teaches music because inspiring children and adults to express themselves through musical communication is something she finds enormously rewarding.

It’s so important when either you or your child start learning a new instrument that the foundations of learning are set well. I am often asked to take over teaching pupils who are on the brink of giving up; they just simply haven’t been taught the basics well and so reach a road bump and hence start to lose interest. When technique and skill is well grasped it becomes a joy to play your instrument.

I am focused on the individual in front of me

When you learn with me you have my full attention. I am all about what you enjoy and what you need to learn so your love of the instrument can soar.

This is fun, lets have fun learning such an amazing gift together!

I start pupils from the age of 7 and teach up to any age adult. Whether you’d like to rekindle a skill you had when you were younger or would like to learn as a complete beginner I have a path for you.

Please see instrument requirements for information on what instrument you will need for lessons.

  • Start from £20 for a half hour lesson

  • Individual lessons start from £20 per half hour

  • Start from £20 for a half hour lesson. Please contact me directly for group lesson options and availability

  • For piano lessons you or your child will need a piano in your home or access to a piano very regularly.

Sorry I don’t teach any form of keyboard or electric piano. Pupils will need an acoustic piano. Acoustic instruments take the same space as a keyboard and can often be picked up very inexpensively. Please let me know if you need help sourcing a suitable instrument.

For flute lessons you will need a good instrument so that you can master sound making well early on. If you need help sourcing an instrument please let me know.

For recorder fortunately we have many inexpensive options but some are definitely better than others! I can guide you to the best instrument for your budget.

How did my musical journey start?

I started the piano age 5 and flute at age 7. Achieving grade 8 flute at the age of 13 and grade 8 piano at the age of 17. I was principal flautist in the Reading Youth Orchestra, Berkshire Youth Wind Orchestra and Berkshire Youth Orchestra. A Berkshire county music scholar I had won multiple competitions and awards all before I even went to University to study music!
